A woman from San Bernardino County in California was arrested for allegedly giving her own child alcohol to silence the crying infant. The woman was arrested under child endangerment charges in Rialto after her baby was hospitalised and was found to be “intoxicated,” as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department revealed that the accused, while driving through Rialto, resorted to giving alcohol to her baby so that it stopped crying.
The 37-year-old woman, identified as Honesti De La Torre (37), has been kept at the West Valley Detention Center after the arrest. She is detained on a 60,000 dollar bond.
The officials have not commented upon the child’s condition, while the incident has led to concern and outrage in the community.
In a similar event, a woman from Ohio, Kristel Candelario (31), was arrested for the murder of her 16-month-old toddler. The child was left unattended for approximately 10 days during her vacation.
The woman was on a trip to Puerto Rico and Detroit, and had left the child alone in the house, police said. She is currently held on a 1 million dollar bond.
