NEW DELHI: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is all set to meet the Governor today, amid ongoing political trumoil.
As per sources, on Sunday, Bihar CM reportedly sought time to meet the Governor and after which he’ll likely break away from Mahagatbandhan in the state.
Amidst the silence of the Bihar chief minister regarding his future actions, speculation about a potential rift between the Mahagathbandhan and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar joining the NDA is gaining momentum.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is scheduled to conduct a meeting with its MLAs and MPs in Patna at 9 am today to strategize in response to the evolving political situation in the state.
The ruling coalition in Bihar, comprising JD(U)-RJD-Congress, is teetering on the edge of collapse, with the possibility of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar rejoining the NDA, the alliance he left in 2022 to form the ‘mahagathbandhan.’
In Bihar’s Lok Sabhawhere there are a total of 40 members, the BJP holds the largest number with 17 MPs. Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) has 16, and the LJP, now divided between Pashupati Kumar Paras and Chirag Paswan, both part of the NDA, has six.
The Bihar Assembly, with 243 seats, sees the RJD with 79 MLAs, followed by the BJP with 78, JD(U) with 45, Congress with 19, CPI (M-L) with 12, and smaller representation from other parties.
If Nitish Kumar decides to switch sides, it would mark the fourth time he has made such a move. However, Bihar BJP chief Samrat Choudhary downplayed the speculations, stating that the party’s high command has ‘no clue’ about it. Choudhary emphasized the need to assess the situation in Bihar before making any decisions and suggested that information would be communicated if there are any developments.
